Poetry | ‘Fix’ by sMOkinWOrd

Bite It by Jasmine McGee1

Bite It by Jasmine McGee

Good evening everyone! Ready for some poetry?!

I’d love to share with you a poem by my good friend, sMOkinWOrd. He’s a dope writer and producer, and he’s one of my favorite people to discuss music with. His unique flair for production and the art of sound is evident in his writing. His poetry is one of kind, not your typical rhyme.

His latest spur of creativity is a poem about lips. The sensuality of a kiss, the enigmatic addiction of a woman’s alluring lips. He was inspired by a piece of artwork I did the other day. I’m in a lip phase lately, so I’m doing a lot of artwork with bold lips being the focus.

I uploaded the picture on my FB and he let the creativity run wild and wrote this dope piece. He calls it “Fix.”

she said “boy i think im addicted to your … lips, let me come see you so i can get a ..fix”
i said “miss, all this, aint free. you gotta pay the fee.”
she said” what’s it gonna cost me?”
i said “well just have to see, .. umm , a kiss your hips, the tip, at least”
she said “i can cover that!”
i said ” can you cover… me?”
she did, with ease, call it synergy, she was so into me, wasnt nuthin she wouldnt give to me.
She’d take my lips betweeen her teeth and say ” i cant resist them they look so sweet , sparkling like sugar when you speak, and when i see them i gotta eat. ” she’d knock me off my feet pin me down with no retreat, we start to mix together like concrete, but her fix for my lips will not complete…

Adequacy

As of late I’ve been going through this entire process of figuring out life, especially considering I graduate in a few weeks. The only reason I moved to Denver is because I live with my parents, and so I’m like really anxious to save up money and go somewhere else; make my own path and find my own “home.”

So in the midst of everything I’m going through and in the process of realizing I have the power to start my own business offering my writing services, I ended up writing this poem about all the rejections writers face. We all get them. Some hurt, some help. I know I’ve had my fair share of high acclaim, as well as horrible rejection that makes you want to crawl up into a ball and shed tears.

But the good + bad have formulated a bold confidence in my work, my writing style, and my personality. I realized that even though the rejections can make you feel inadequate, you have to realize your worth and let the pain propel you to write even more.

Adequacy

Abyss of letters,
ink patiently fading away
as pounding tears shred the words to bits

Adequate words,
truths you were never the one
We chose someone else,
anecdotes for “failure”

Pain boiling in your soul,
tormenting fragments of words
dripping with blood
Simmering visions of defeat
enticing the dreams,
a land once polluted with happiness

You’re only a page away from truth,
heartbeat lying within your pen
is an “adequate” a pulse.

Urban Gypsy

Here is a poem that I wrote for my Poetry Writing class earlier in my major. My professor always had us write poems with certain guidelines or words we had to use, so this was one of those poems. Man, as I get closer to graduating I keep running across work that I’ve done over the years.

Urban Gypsy

A super-hero,
flamed in red, blue, and yellow
uniqueness becomes her,
one-of-a-kind

Towering at 6ft tall
her red cape soars in the wind
Her shadow stands beside her,
lengthened by strength

Beneath her,
flocks of people wander aimlessly
searching for a forbidden power,
the ability travel,
the art of being nomadic

Only she lives without boundaries,
obstruction to settling-down.
Wearing the arts like a charm bracelet,
dangling in the wind,
she is the urban gypsy.

With bold determination,
her eyes close
and she leaps into destiny.
Urban nomad, sailing
through the fierce winds across the states.

ThinkSoul25: The Book

Good morning everyone!

Before I start my day, I wanted to remind my new and old readers of two things: I wrote a book and I’m currently writing a second, better, and original book with fresh new content. That’s right, I’m in the process of working on an original in depth collection of witty material. All the hilarious truth life experiences and hundreds of dates I’ve gone on are all being detailed in my new book. It’s juicy!

Not only is the book filled with dating stories and random musings, it also is even more in depth glimpses at some of the defining moments in my life. It’s the material that I’d love to blog about, but some of the stories are well over 1500 words. So stay on the look out for the new book, it’s filled with material that nobody else has ever seen or heard me talk about (except for my parents and brother.) But seriously, it’s a lot of funny stories and my sassy opinions that I think you guys will love.

While I’m working on that (around 100 pages done so far) I wanted to remind you guys that I do have a book out there. ThinkSoul25: Thoughts of the Urban Nomad is a book that’s available on Amazon and was published with Createspace.com. A lot of the material is from my early days of blogging, but it’s still a good read and people have told me they enjoyed it.

So, if you have 8bucks to spare and want to dive into my early days of writing, then feel free to pick up a copy. If not, I so understand. However, this new book is completely original. I’ve been fighting myself not to put the stories onto my blog, they are hilarious! I think I’m going to actually attempt to get this one picked up by a publisher, but if that doesn’t work, then I’ll self publish and promote the hell out of it. Promoting is always a daunting task, but this next book will be worth it.

Any who, just wanted to put that information out there. You won’t be hurting my feelings if you don’t buy it, its not that big of a deal. But it would be nice to know my writing is in the hands of some wonderful readers and fellow bloggers out there, so check it out!!!

Many thanks,

Jazz
