DMV Music

Hey World!

Been busy the past few days, but wanted to take some time to post some music I been listening to that reminds me of home. I grew up in the DMV aka DC.MD.VA or simply put "The Greater DC Metropolitan". Even though I was born in Columbus, OH I grew up in Maryland and spent some years in Virginia as well. I can’t wait to move back once I graduate in 2012, but until then I still listen to mainly DMV hip-hop and stay in touch with my friends back East. I’ll be regularly posting more music from the DMV in the next few days. Some of my favorite artists are: Tabi Bonney, Wale, Raheem Devaughn, J. Holiday, Y.H.G.M, and just found this dope group called DTMD (Dunc & Toine Makin’ Dollas). Check out some of my favorite videos below!

tabibonney-375x500Tabi Bonney-  No stranger to music, son of afro-funk superstar Itadi Bonney, Tabi Bonney has become internationally recognized for his DC bred flow and European street flare. His clothing line, Bonney Runway, brings his music to life and his music videos always exemplify swagg. He is well known for this songs: “The Pocket”, “Syce It”, “Nuthin But a Hero”, and “Fever” with Raheem Devaughn”. He is one of my favorite rappers that I listen to, so check him out!  http://www.bonneyrunway.com/

DTMD( Dunc & Toine Makin’ Dollas) is the perfect combination of a skilled producer and a edgy rapper with a neo soul flow. Their video for “You” came out several months ago, and I just discovered it today on one of my favorite websites for DMV music, http://dcmumbosauce.com/

Check out there video and  their EP “The Basics”.

Raheem DeVaughn-  Chrisette Michelle’s soulful cousin may have been born in Newark, NJ, but was raised in Montgomery and PG County MD and represents the Greater DC Metro to the fullest.  His soulful vocals have the influences of Dwele, Van Hunt, Stevie Wonder, and other soulful men that sings real R&B songs, not just about sex.  I first heard him many years ago when I was living in Columbia, MD and his track “Woman” came on the radio. Him, along with J. Holiday, are two of my favorite R&B artists from the DMV that can make any single woman thirsty for a man. http://www.raheemdevaughnmusic.com/
