Classically-trained pianist, Chilly Gonzales, is known for his innovative compositions that can’t be narrowed down to one specific genre. One thing we know about him for sure is that he isn’t much of a electronic guy; prefers composing with real-time instrumentation. However, he isn’t a stranger to electronic music. His main electronic success was his album Ivory Towers which was one of his few ventures into the world of electronic music, and that album wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for Boys Noize.
In his latest interview for Daft Punk’s The Collaborator series, Chilly discusses his thoughts on music, composition, and working with Daft Punk. It’s a nice behind-the-scenes look at how he helped composed a track with Daft Punk, as well as some of the reasons behind the musical choices he makes on the piano.
Watch the exclusive interview below and dive into the mind of Chilly Gonzales and his musical genius.
And in case you missed Daft Punk’s track with Pharrell, check it out too!
I’m a big fan of singer/songwriter Stee Downes and I’m glad that he sent me his latest tribute to Daft Punk. Taking his song “Want You In My Soul,” Stee cooked up a nice Daft Punk Version that you’ll surely want to check out. It’s good that Daft Punk edge, but the soulful vocals of Stee make it oh so smooth!
Give it a listen!
It’s really hard for me to pick a favorite singer. There are so many different artists out there with a variety of sounds, and some of them sound the same, while others have a unique catchy voice.
One artist that I’ve always been in love with is the British singer-songwriter Mika. I’ve been listening to his music for years! Whenever he releases a new track, I’m always anxious to prepare my ears for hours of listening to it. He’s got this nice tone and quality with his voice, and yes, his voice is high pitched. But it’s not the annoying high pitches that makes you feel like your brains are melting. It’s the type of high voice that you hear in Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
Mika has a lot of great songs out there. From “Blame it on the Girls” to “Relax, Take it Easy,” oh and lets not forget “We Are Golden.” Selecting a favorite is a hard choice, because I love all his song (including remixes done by other artists.)
Over the years he’s released some great tracks, but his latest release is a song that shows us how to “Celebrate.” The track features Pharrell Williams and the official music video came out last week. In the video we see Mika with a new hairstyle (I’m used to his long curly hair) and we get to watch him sing, walk around looking dapper and insanely handsome, and of course we get to watch clips of people “celebrating.”
So what’s the moral of the story? Get up, have fun, and lets get the whole world to celebrate.
I’m such a big fan of Mika, so you know I’ve got to post some of his other videos as well. I totally love Mika!
I ran across this video the other day while reading The Awesomer, and at first I thought it was a relative of Erykah Badu. But then I did a lot more researching and realized that even though Yuna has that Erykah Badu vibe, she is actually a Malaysian singer with sultry vocals.
The reason I immediately thought of Erykah Badu is mainly because of the hijabi that Yuna wears. But she doesn’t rock it for style, she is actually a devote muslimah. She’s still a newcomer on the scene, but her track Pharell Williams produced track “Live Your Life” has put her on the radar in the past few months.
“Live Your Life” has this nice soulful vibe yet it’s still bouncy and gets you in the mood for some smooth swaying. She’s got such a sultry voice, and she is also quite beautiful. I could tell from her features that she might have been Malaysian (I’ve had a few Malaysian friends in the past,) but I wasn’t too sure. But yes, Yuna is Malaysian and she grew up in Malaysia. She started out singing and playing guitar while she was attending law school. But now she lives in Los Angeles and is making a career as a soulful singer and a fashionista with a clothing line.
You can check out her clothing line by visiting her official website. And if you’re looking for a nice soulful song that is inspirational, then you’ll want to put “Live Your Life” on repeat. It’s such a beautiful song that can take a dull day riddled with insecurity and turn it into a riveting vision of dreams worth chasing.
