So I stayed up last night watching some documentaries and movies with my mom and brother. We started the night off watching Kung Fu Dunk on Netflix (by the guy who made Shaolin Soccer, so hilarious!) and then we watched Alive? Is Michael Jackson Really Dead? It was a pretty mind blowing investigation and it made me think about a lot of things. I too, often wonder if MJ is truly dead. A lot of her facts seemed believable and they did make sense, so who knows, maybe MJ did fake his death in order to escape all that crazy fame.
Whatever the case may be, Michael Jackson will always be the king of pop and an amazing performer. I love every song he has ever done and worked on, but there is one song that I can’t stand. “What’s Up With You” is one of the songs that Michael is on and it’s horrible! MJ doesn’t necessary make the song bad, but Eddie Murphy is terrible.
Eddie Murphy was already terrible on his one hit wonder “Party All the Time,” but his song and music video for “What’s Up With You” is just bizarre. I had never watched it before until last night. My brother started off by showing my mom and me a hilarious Mad TV spoof in which Aries Spears impersonates Eddie Murphy and reenacts the making of “Party of the Time” with Rick James. It’s a must watch! I had seen a piece of it before, but watching it a second time in it’s entirety was priceless.
I enjoy Eddie Murphy and his comedy, but his singing is horrible. I don’t know why him and Michael decided to do a song together, but it was a bad choice. The video sucks! It’s so bizarre. Eddie is rocking these black skinny jeans and a wife-beater, while grabbing his crotch and trying to be all cool like MJ. It’s a FAIL! I mean, okay, towards the end of the song MJ does make the song a little better, but the video is a true WTF moment.
I’m not going to even bother trying to break it down anymore, so here it is. If you’ve seen it before, then it’s a great laugh and a reminder that Eddie Murphy is a terrible singer. But maybe him and Michael Jackson were really good friends and just decided to have fun. On camera they have this type of friendship chemistry, whispering in each others ears, and dancing all close. I’m sure they were close friends, but the video is just strange, but you can’t help but to watch it. MJ does make the song a little better, but it still sucks.
