With so many big name developers and videogame franchises appeasing us gamers worldwide, it’s easy to forget about the rookies & those indie connoisseurs who might not ever have their games hitting the shelves of your local game store.
I’ve met a few videogame developers & aspiring designers in my past, but I’ve never really payed attention to the industry. As long as I can get my hands on a good game that will keep my interest, then I don’t really care whether it’s by an indie company or not. Yet Indie Game: The Movie is a 2012 Sundance selection that has been reminding us that indie game developers & designers do exist, they just might not be known worldwide.
Apparently the documentary has been creating quite the buzz in the gaming industry, and HBO actually is turning the movie into a regular series. I’m all for it. It would be kind of cool to have a behind the scenes look at game designers & these developers, and how they try to break into the big leagues (or make a name for themselves in the indie circuit.)
Unless your on the panel of Sundance or some heavyweight in the film industry, then it’s unlikely you’ll be able to view the film right now. Yet on the website you can preorder a digital copy or DVD. But I’m not quite sure when it will actually be released, but I do know that the trailer is enough to catch my interest. I enjoy a good documentary, so I’m looking forward to hopefully finding out more about Indie Game: The Movie and the tough journey that designers & developers must face in the indie game market.
