Whew, the past few days have been hectic! Yesterday, I spent the entire day running errands and doing some much needed shopping, so I didn’t get a chance to tell y’all about my latest experience with the underground house scene in Washington, DC.
For those of you who have been reading my blog for quite some time (or personally know me,) then you know that I’m a huge house music junkie. I like it deep, I like it soulful, and I like to be all bout house! My love of house has been with me ever since I was in middle school, but now that I’m 21, about to graduate college, and live in close proximity to DC, I realized it was time to find a community of house heads. Well, I found that community…Sunglass Sundays.
In order to truly express how I ran across Sunglass Sundays, I have to mention that if it wasn’t for me
going to Red Fridays @ U Street Music Hall, I wouldn’t have been so compelled to search for the underground house scene in DC. I loved the vibe on Red Fridays and the atmosphere of no drama, come as you are and enjoy the good music. House is a community…and Red Fridays is a home for house lovers.
But if Friday isn’t enough dosage of house to feed your soul, then Sunglass Sundays will give you a good fixin’ of house.
Sunglass Sundays is one of the most chill parties to check out in the city. It’s one of those chill events you go to on a lazy sunday afternoon, and get ready to immerse yourself in great drinks (peach sangria is awesome, thanks Leo,) down to earth people from all different backgrounds, and great house music from DJs that are passionate about preserving the essence of house.

Not only is the vibe very cool, but the host Leonardo aka DJ eloel surely knows how to party! He makes everyone feel so welcome, and he’s all about keeping out any drama; everyone comes for the music and to mingle. He’s one of the coolest dudes to hang around, and from having a conversation with him you can tell that he’s truly passionate about it. He’s not just throwing parties for the hell of it, but he’s throwing these events (him and his business partner host a few house nights throughout the city) to give DJs a chance to play their music in front of crowds that truly appreciate house.
On Sunday, Sunglass Sundays was truly a great experience. They brought in Sergio Santos from Boston and he killed it! He was spinning some great house tracks that had that deeper vibe. You couldn’t help but to dance to his set, but the DJs before him were also pretty good too! Indecent Exposure (Yacine + Karim) brought forth a nice soulful vibe, and it was also great having a chance to speak with both of them and hear how passionate they are about their music. Both of them are truly passionate about bringing forth that soulful side of house, so you can truly hear the “soul” in their sets.
Oh, and I must also mention the other DJ’s that warmed up the party and got things started. DJ Skinner and his partner Flip. Shout out to you guys! You truly got things started right and I totally look forward to seeing more of your sets.
I could go on and on about how awesome Sunglass Sundays is, but it’s one of those things you must truly go experience for yourself! If you’re in search of good house music, people from different backgrounds, and a place where you can just get down and dance on a “lazy” Sunday, then be sure to check out the last installment of Sunglass Sundays @ District Lounge + Grille in Adams Morgan, Washington, DC.

Stay tuned for more coverage of house music events in DC!
There is nothing more alluring to me than the intoxicating sounds of divine soulful house. Honestly, at the end of the day I’m quite content with relaxing and listening to house, especially when it’s a nice soulful delight that is the perfect soundtrack of daydreaming.
One of those soulful delights that comes to mind is Jask’s track featuring Jocie, “Beautiful.” The original track is quite nice, but I truly love the Spiritchaser Mix. Spiritchaser has some great original tracks, but the soulful remixes are always worth checking out.
This particular mix gives the track this nice soulful work with a hint of deep house, but still keeps the quality of Jocie’s angelic vocals. Her voice serenades your body and sends you into a soulful dreamlike daze; the track truly exemplifies beauty.

I used to think that I’d have to drive all the way to Baltimore once a month for my fix of house, but it seems that there has been a new house music event brewing in D.C. Of course, it’s still nice to make that trek to Charm City and go to Deep Sugar, but for house junkies living closer to the capital, you might want to check out MOTIONS: DC’s Newest Dance Party.
MOTIONS was created by Ernest Fountain (KLUBNUT.COM) and Andrew Hogans(Global Beats Sessions.) The two of them noticed their was a void in
the D.C. dance party scene, and they wanted to bring back the good ol’ dance party vibe on a monthly basis. By using their love for house and good ol’ fashion dance party music, Fountain and Hogans realized that MOTIONS could be that superb combination of fun, house music, laughter, and dancing.
MOTIONS is a place where people of all ages, lifestyles, personalities, and outlooks on life can come together to get their boogie on.
So when and where does MOTIONS take place? Well folks, it’s the first Saturday of every month at Fasil Lounge in Washington, D.C. The party is quickly becoming known for it’s captivating sound; dance the night away to the latest and greatest deep, afro, soulful, and tech house.
The next MOTIONS Party will be June 2, 2012 @Fasil Lounge. The lineup will feature females DJs. MOTIONS is honored to have Francesca Magliano and DJ Housecat spinning at their next party. Both of the ladies have been recognized for their impeccable DJ skills and their ability to get the party started. While both of them may be female DJS, their journey and love for house music began differently.
DJ Francesca fell in love with DJing while in college, but didn’t actually dream of becoming a premiere DJ spinning along side Quintin Harris, DJ Spinna, Jellybeat Benitez, Louie Vega, and Todd Terry. But her hobby soon turned into a passionate career with over a decade of spinning the addicting sounds of house that have earned her guest sets at NYC clubs such as Happy Valley, Santos, Speed, Sullivan Room, Cielo, Aria, OHM, China Club, and Centro-fly.
She isn’t just a DJ, but she also is a producer known for working on remixes and original tracks. Her latest accolade is her remix of DJ Kent’s “Falling” and Darryl D’bonneau’s “Strong Love.” You can hear more of her mixes here http://djfrancesca.podomatic.com
The second lady spinning at Motions on June 2, 2012 is DJ HouseCat. She first fell in love with house music in 86, but as of 2011 she decided to embark on a career as a DJ. Her internet mixshow “House of Soul” has become a popular show on Cyberjamz Radio (she is partner of the show with Sammy Rock) and house fans have quickly fallen in love with the sounds of DJ HouseCat.
Even though she resides in Hyattsville, Maryland, DJ HouseCat has still made appearances on the web and live-sets. She’s had guest shows on Sweatzone.com, FacetheBasslive.com, and Mixedin.net. She has also made an amazing
appearance at the WMC *FEMANCIPATION* party at the Shelley Hotel in Miami. You can also listen to her live set at the Just Heat party in Chicago, which will feature Sammy Rock, Greg Grey, J.R. Jam, DJ Ronnie, and Carla Prather.
But if you can’t make it to Chicago, then no worries. You can stop by MOTIONS @ Fasil Lounge in Washington, D.C. on June 2, 2012 and check out DJ HouseCat and DJ Francesca spinning up a vicious storm of good ol’ house music.

I may not have been posting a lot of house music lately, but that doesn’t mean I’ve forsaken my daily routine of listening to house whenever possible.
I will forever and always be a house junkie, and sometimes I do wish I had a time machine so I could go back to the days of the classic house scene. There is just something so titillating about the composition of the classic tracks, that you can’t help but to get up and dance. If a classic house track is on, and you’re not dancing…then yes, there must be something wrong with you!
I’m just messing with you.
Not everybody loves to get up and dance, but listening to Skwerl’s classic infused track “You Need to Dance” is more than enough ammunition needed to get the party started. The song, which is driven by these soulful vocals and this pulsating bass, inspires you to get up, get lost in the music, and just dance, dance, and dance!!!
I love the purity of house, especially the classic tracks, so it’s nice to see that Skwerl knows how to put out a track that truly captures that disco essence and classic vibe of the music you can always expect to hear from the German label, International Deejay Gigolos Records.
