Culture x Lifestyle x Music | Bakery Boys – Prologue #001 ‘Recognise’

I don’t really pay attention to mainstream hip-hop nowadays, mainly due to a strong preference for the classics, hits from the 00s, and a love for underground rhymes infused with soul. Due to those three musical preferences, I tend to avoid the mainstream jargon that makes it way into the airwaves. Yet don’t be confused, I’m still a hip-hop lover.

My senses are always attracted to connoisseurs of rhymes that infuse culture with lifestyle (fashion, art, & urban appeal.) It may seem like an easy task to rhyme about all of those elements, but I’m truly amazed when it’s done with an impeccable level of class that still has a street swag, and the Bakery Boys are just that group of hip-hop artists that know exactly how to infuse a street vibe with a classy appreciation for art, fashion, and lifestyle.
Back in January I wrote a blog post about London based collective Bakery Boys and their single with London based rock band The Thirst called “Up & Down Girl.”  Initially I had fallen in love with the artistic vibe of the Thirst and their funky indie rock sound, but then I had the pleasure of being introduced to the musical stylings of Bakery Boys and my ears were pleasantly pleased.

So who are the Bakery Boys? Well they are a London based creative collective made up of Ace Boogie, Shack & Dirty Dre. These three fellas are skilled in the art of rhyming, fashion, and art appreciation. Their music alone speaks for itself, but you’re still left wanting to know more about who these guys are and what it’s like spending a day (or a few weeks) in their lives. Well, that’s why they’ve got the Prologue series.

Prologue is the Bakery Boys’ new video series that captures their journey and their unique perspectives on music, life, art, and other eloquent random musings.

The first video in the Prologue series is called “Recognise” and it’s a set of visuals + sounds that show the Bakery Boys teaming up with Recognise the Movement to document their journey throughout Summer 2012; a glimpse into the Bakery Boys lifestyle. And from what I’ve seen so far, a day in the life of the Bakery Boys seems soulfully awesome.

Ace Boogie, Shack, & Dirty Dre truly exude what happens when culture + lifestyle + music intertwine…Bakery Boys.

Spotlight Sound | Quiet Storm – ‘Sunlight’ [Official Video]

Twitter isn’t just great for spurts of thoughts, but it’s also a cool way to run across new music. Running across artists on Twitter is something that I enjoy doing, which is why I was pleasantly surprised when someone tweeted me Quiet Storm’s music video “Sunlight.”

So who exactly is Quiet Storm? Well, he’s an indie hip-hop artist from Long Island, NY (Suffolk County) and he’s been on the rise within the indie hip-hop scene. He’s got the swag necessary to appeal to the masses, but he’s also got some genuine lyrics that can be raw, inspirational, and simply dope.

His latest single, “Sunlight” is a nice track produced by Btone and the James Newman directed visuals bring forth Quiet Storm’s heavy hitting lyrics with compelling imagery.

Team Rawr | Kelow – “Let It Go”

There may not be a lot of female rappers making it big on the mainstream hip-hop industry, but the indie circuit has a lot of females that are doing their thing. In the past I wrote about one of my favorite female rappers MC Melodee,  but there is another female artist out there that has caught my attention.

Thanks to @teamRAWR on Twitter, they let me know that yet another artist from Baby Dinosaurs & CO. has released a new video. The artist I’m talking about is this dope female rapper named Kelow. If you haven’t heard of Kelow, then you’re missing out on some great music from a rawr-diculously dope indie artist that screams creativity.

Kelow is an upcoming female rapper from Maryland, but she doesn’t just limit herself to rapping. She’s a songwriter, a poet, a painter, and a fusion of eclectic expression that many wish they could be. Kelow is unique, original, beautiful, eccentric, and super talented.

Her debut project Colored Pencils was released by Baby Dinosaurs & CO, and thus far the project has received quite the acclaim. Simply put, it’s good music. High quality production, innovative expression, and abstract thought are what make the album such a success. A lot of the tracks give you a glimpse into different emotions and concepts that Kelow likes to express, but her song “Let It Go” is one that many can relate to.

The video for “Let It Go” just came out the other day and its yet another amazing video shot by BDCO’s creative director Ayinde7. It’s a song that gives Kelow a chance to show off an avant-garde spoken word approach instead of spitting some solid rhymes. It’s unique. Artistic. Refreshing. Bold. It’s Kelow….

Check out the visuals below & be sure to follow her on twitter @SuperKelow  Also download her debut album Colored Pencils here
