I’m sure my fellow gamers out there have their fair share of glitchmares (glitch nightmares) and this awesome viral video from Corridor Digital is all about glitches and how they can destroy the world of gaming as we know it! The video is a hilarious yet uber dramatic look at what happens when a game has glitches, and the video uses super cool special effects to replicate what glitches look like. Dude, it’s pretty awesome!
So you may wonder why I decided to post this. Well, along time ago I came to a conclusion about myself. I’m a geek. Yeah, I can be cool and fly, but when it comes to video games and anything related to having powers or technology, I get super geeky and excited! So whenever I’m playing a game and it has a glitch, I get extremely upset. I feel as though the world is going to end (wasn’t that supposed to happen Friday?) You thought a lag could make a gamer upset, well you haven’t seen anything until you’ve seen a glitch terrorize our dreams.
Perhaps I’m being dramatic. Not all glitches are nightmares, some are quite hilarious and ways to “cheat” in a game. But I will say that some glitches I’ve experience have caused me to go into a fit of rage. The worst? I’d say when I bought Fable II and was super excited to play it. Seriously, I had waited so long for it to come out and I went out and bought it day one. But then I got so far and it glitched. Not sure what happened but it froze at the same part each time and I couldn’t beat the game.
Bummer! Luckily I was able to take it back and get something else, but I was so upset I couldn’t get to the end. I had gotten so close and then it just messed up! Uh, darn glitch!!!!!
As you can tell from the paragraph above, I’m passionate about gaming. So when a glitch happens, it affects me deeply, especially if it messes up the flow of my gaming. But if it’s a funny glitch or a way to “cheat” the game, then hey I’m not hating. Sometimes you need a funny glitch to make your day.
And this video truly makes my day; it’s funny, innovative, and speaks to all the gamers out there who have experienced glitches.
Us gamers got some great perseverance We reset the game and start over until we can get it right. We will play a level over and over again with the hopes of the glitch getting out the way way so we can reach our goal…conquering the game.
There was an unearthly silence that hung in the air one evening. I was going about my business: laundry, dish washing and other tidying up chores that take up a fair amount of my time. Then I realized that the other two occupants of this household were nowhere to be found at that very moment. Hmmm….it was to hot to be outside enjoying the fresh air. Equally unlikely was any destination outside of the home unless it was the comic book shop or the local ice cream parlor or video game store. No, I would have been notified of their impending departure to those obvious father-daughter haunts. And then it dawned on me as I heard murmurs of oh no and distant static gunfire bursts. I though it could not be and yet it was. HALO. More specifically HALO: Reach.
I hesitantly went down the stairs, not prepared for what I saw. The basement family room had become Video Gamer Central (replete with beverages, an assortment of snacks and empty wrappers). My kindhearted daughter and devoted husband were in the throes of a death match with others on Xbox Live. My daughter (dubbed the Chosen One) was online trying to defeat the arrogant teen cousins of the West. Headsets glowing and trash talking banter intertwined with the space soldiers barking orders made for a unique feast of sight and sound. My first thought was to demand that they finish the game and head upstairs to join the rest of the world. Then I thought better of it and bit my tongue, figuratively and literally.
According to a recent study published in the Journal of Adolescent Health, parents engaging in age appropriate video game play with their children is linked to achieving stronger familial bonds, strengthening overall mental health and reducing the likelihood of contentious behavior (aka talking back to mom mad dad; okay that was my two cents as a parent).
The Journal of Adolescent Health researchers infer that parent involvement in the area of gaming has more of an impact on daughters versus sons. Fathers were more likely to play video games with their children; mothers were less likely to be participants. The positive outcomes were as follows: more quality time and increased communication between parent and child. Thus, the parent-child relationship is overall improved. In the long run, effects of playing Wii Bowling or Just Dance with your wee one is far-reaching.
Though this started as a post about being a Halo widow, it was really about the impact of connecting with sons and daughters through gaming. As I settle down on the couch with controller in hand, I can be assured as I am being obliterated by the Covenant mercenaries in the Halo universe that my daughter is on her way to being a capable adult.

Dude, it’s the ultimate showdown in the official music video for deadmau5′s single “Professional Griefers.”
The video features deadmau5 versus Gerard Way in an epic UFC battle. Think of Real Steel, except instead of controlling rock-em-sock-em inspired robots, deadmau5 and Gerard Way are fighting using gigantic controlled mice. Sounds weird? Well, who cares, it’s still dope!
Watch the video below for “Professional Griefers.” The production is by, of course, deadmau5, and the vocals are courtesy of Gerard Way. Oh, and if you’re wondering what a “griefer” actually is, well let me lay some knowledge on you. A “griefer” is basically that asshole we’ve all encountered while playing online games. You know, the one who intentionally harasses everyone and breaks so many ethics of online gaming. Yup, that’s what a griefer is.
And as deadmau5 shows us with his song, some people are “Professional Griefers.” Yet, at least he makes it sound cooler than it actually is, and the track makes you want to dance, dance, and dance somoe more! But please, save yourself the hassle and don’t be that annoying asshole in the online gaming community. Either be lighthearted with your commentary (nothing wrong with a little taunting) or turn off your damn mic and just put the controller down and be ashamed of yourself!
Anyways, back to the main point of this post, deadmau5. The single “Professional Griefers” will be on deadmau5′s forthcoming album, >insert album title here<. And seriously, that is the actual title of the album. Hey, it’s deadmau5, so what did you expect? He wears a dead mouse head, so we should know by now not to expect anything conventional from deadmau5. But I’m not complaining, I’m all for the unconventional; the art of being eccentric.
A lot of great games were showcased at this years E3 convention, yet one thing that many gamers ponder is the evolution of graphics; what is next for gaming?
Every year developers and designers are attempting to push the limits, defy the rules of tradition, and impress gamers with the ultimate gaming experience. As a gamer, I take pride in having a good story and overall gameplay, but I also love when a game delivers “life-like” graphics. It’s nice to turn on my big HDTV and get lost in a game that has stunning graphics, which is why I was quite impressed with Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain. The powerful engine behind Heavy Rain let us gamers put our hands on a game that not only offered interesting gameplay, but also held a sense of reality that was impressive beyond words.
If you’re looking to be impressed beyond words and utterly speechless by extraordinary technology, then you’ll want to watch Square Enix’s latest Realtime Tech demo. Square Enix is developer behind the Final Fantasy series and the new Tomb Raider coming out in 2013, so they’ve got a good reputation in the industry.
They’ve got a lot of work on their plate right now with Tomb Raider: Crossroads, but they still had time to show us gamers the future of gaming.
Their realtime tech demo, Agni’s Philosophy, shows us the stunning capability of their new software, Luminous Studio engine. The real-tech demo shows off the new engine and it’s impressive realistic appearance. Hands down, one of the coolest real-tech demos I’ve seen in quite some time.
Now, it hasn’t been mentioned whether or not this realtime tech demo can actually run on Microsoft or Sony’s system, but it’s still an impressive video that gives me hope for the future of graphics in the gaming industry. It’s nice to have gorgeous cutscenes, but it would be amazing if every aspect of gameplay looked as stunning as Agni’s Philosophy realtime tech demo.
P.S. you’d have to be a fool to watch this video in anything else but HD (unless your computer isn’t that awesome). Go for gold, watch it in HD. I watched it several times in 1080p.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have exciting news to announce: I have fallen in love! I’m not quite sure how it happened, but yes, I am madly in love. With who you may ask? Oh, wait…did you for a second think I was talking about a guy? Eh, scratch that. Still single, happy, and just not ready to embark on something serious. Casual is fine. So if I’m not talking about falling madly in love with some charming dude, then what on earth could have my heart so captivated? Oh yeah, that’s right, Mass Effect 3.
I’m addicted to Mass Effect 3. It’s so hard for me to put the controller down and just walk away. Last night after finishing all my school work, I played the multiplayer game for hours. I hooked up with a buddy of mine and we played for a few hours. It was a lot of fun, but then we called it quits. We had to go be responsible adults and work on school work. But, I knew I couldn’t stay away forever. So I finalized my writing portfolio (for technical writing jobs), had some coffee, and headed back to my room to stay on ME3 until 3:43am. Yeah, I’m addicted.
I can’t even use my desk in my room to do homework, because my 47inch television is teasing me to pick up the controller & bug out for hours in pristine beautiful 1080p euphoria. Serious, Mass Effect 3 looks amazing in 1080p. I’m so tempted to go play in the living room on the 50 inch, but for now I’ll stick with playing in my room. I’m just getting so wrapped up into the story, and the online play takes up hours of my time. But last night (well this morning) I had the chance to play the story some more and move on to the next few missions. Then it got so bad today, that I actually played online while finishing the last 20 mins of my spin bike. Yeah, addicted.
Mass Effect has always been one of my favorite series because it speaks to my geeky side, so I knew that things would be crazy once I actually got my hands on it. If you thought Mass Effect 2 was good, then Mass Effect 3 is a million times better. The enemies are tough. No just tougher, but huge! Ugh, I hate the Banshee and the Brute. Those two together always immediately kill annihilate my squad when playing online. But sometimes I’m on a pretty good squad and we make it to wave 11,
sometimes 12. For those of you out there who love playing Mass Effect 3 on PS3, then add me on PSN: funk25
I honestly am so madly in love with Mass Effect 3, that I want to hurry up and end this post so I can go play it. LOL. I have a problem. Ugh, such a geek! But whatever, it’s who I am. I’m a geeky girl gamer that is addicted to Mass Effect 3, and I’m still always going to be addicted to Call of Duty. So it’s a win win situation; mixture of action-RPG with first-person shooting thrown in the midst of my gaming preferences.
But oh, one more thing before I go. Have you guys seen the Literal Mass Effect 3 Trailer? It’s pretty funny! So be sure to check that out too. And dudes, I know I’m not the only one out there that is madly in love with Mass Effect 3….right? lol

Q4 (quarter four) is shaping up to probably be the best quarter for game releases. In Q3 (quarter 3) big name games such as Dead Island, Gears of War 3 (duh, you already know,) and RAGE brought their A game. Of course Dead Island had major slip ups with launching, patch issues, and just a bunch of annoying problems, but it still satisfied a lot of gamers need to slash zombies. Following Dead Island, you’ve got the Gears of War 3 craze (still haven’t played it) and RAGE, but now Q4 is here and it’s time for the epic gaming showdown to begin; Battlefield 3 vs. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.
The anticipation surrounding the release of Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 is driving us gamers crazy! Well it might not be driving all the gamers, but for a die hard first-person shooter fanatic like me, it’s driving me bonkers! Every gamer has their preference in regards to gaming, which explains why some gamers are crazy excited about Skyrim and other gamers are in chiming in on the B3 vs. MW3 debate. I personally have never been a fan of Elder Scrolls, MMORPGs, and other fantasy driven RPGs. I love the fast-paced high octane vibe of playing first-person shooters, but I think Battlefield 3 is going to seriously pump up the adrenaline.
For the past year the game industry has been slowly building up the debate on how Battlefield 3 will compare to Modern Warfare 3. I’ve always been more of a Call of Duty gamer, but Battlefield 2 wasn’t that bad and the graphics in Battlefield 3 look insane! It’s hard to say that I will take sides in this overall debate because both games bring something unique to the table. While MW3 takes us into World World III and the question of who will dominate the globe, Battlefield 3 gives us a realistic-looking military setting that could give MW3 a run for it’s money.
The October 25th release for Battlefield 3 is only a few days away, and I’ve already placed my pre-order through Amazon. I got sick of Gamestop and them telling me I hadn’t pre-ordered stuff in store, even though I did; so now I just pre-order through Amazon and it shows up at my doorstep the day of the release. But anyways, like I was saying, Battlefield 3 is about to be released and the new “Mission Launch” trailer is reminding us why Battlefield 3 is a must for gamers to get. The Multiplayer Beta had already sold me, but the latest trailers and screenshots are the reason why I went ahead and placed my order; this game has some killer graphics that you can’t pass up!
The game is built with the Frostbite 2 engine, an engine that is better in rendering superior animation, realistic lighting and special effects, and incredible sound design. The engine upgrade is what makes this game stand out in comparison
to Modern Warfare 3, but I think MW3 will still be able to wow fans with some graphic upgrades and a compelling story line. MW2 was pretty great in my opinion, but I think the 3rd one might be a pleasant surprise and also be a big competitor for Battlefield 3. For me, it’s not too much of a big debate or decision to make because I’m getting both games. But the fact that Battlefield 3 is getting released in a few days and Modern Warfare 3 isn’t getting released until Nov. 8th does make me more anxious to get my hands on Battlefield 3.
This rivalry between Battlefield 3 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is probably going to be a big epic showdown this holiday season. It’s hard to decide which one is better, so it’s probably wise to just admit that both of them are good in their own ways. But of course once both of these games are on the market at the same time, the debate is just going to grow and professional gamers and reviewers are bound to chime in; so I’ll be keeping my eyes open and looking forward to hearing some more professional critics on which game is the better contender. But for now, it’s looking like Battlefield 3 is going to wow the fans with it’s killer graphics.

Aaron is back, and this time he is freaking out over Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. I’ve been watching The Online Gamer off and on for the past few months, but I’m glad to finally see some new material that is just in time for the upcoming release of MW3. I personally will always be a huge fan of first-person-shooters, especially the Call of Duty franchise. It’s one of those things you either love or hate; some people are anti-COD and that’s okay. It’s not for everyone.
As usual Aaron is such a major douche-bag, but it’s kind of how some male gamers can be. I swear there are certain Gamestops I won’t go to because some of the men that work there are such assholes; which is probably why I crack up watching Online Gamer, because I’ve met some gamers like him. Of course, The Online Gamer is a super exaggerated depiction of an obsessive gamer, but some people really do take it so serious. It’s one of the reasons why I only play using my headset if I’m amongst friends. I’m not one for talking to random strangers on COD and hearing their reaction to the fact I’m a female; it’s gets old after awhile.Sexism in gaming does exist, and if you watch The Online Gamer, then you know how much Aaron can’t stand female gamers. Lol a hot mess, but hey us females gamers are still badass. We just prefer to dish out major pwnage and still be sexy the definition of a woman. Well, at least that how I like to roll; always
looking my best and still kicking ass!
MW3 hasn’t even come out yet, but the crew over at Reckless Tortuga has already decided to put out the first installment in the The Online Gamer:MW3 series. The first part contains the usual foul language, sexist attitude, and the usual discussions of ultimate pwnage. In this episode Aaron takes pre-orders for MW3 and decides to line everyone up by their leader board ranking. It’s just a hot gaming mess, so check it out!

Just for the gamers, here is an amazing fan-made short film for COD Mw3
