Monday R&B & Soul Vibes

Some days I like to listen to soul grooves and daydream about blossoming romance, flowers, handsome men, and beautiful days. It’s nice to just take a break from the rough edges of most hip-hop tracks, and chill out with sexy soul vibes. I’m a huge fan of the sensual, seductive, and down to earth vibe of most soul music. I first fell in love with the genre when I began listening to Erykah Badu and Jill Scott during middle school. Both of those women sort of became my role models. I felt that both of them had that artistic vibe that was beautiful on so many levels. It was nice to look up to women that aren’t just “plastic” pop icons, but soulful curvacious beauties with voices that are heaven sent.

I still look up to Jill Scott and Erykah Badu, but then I realized the only person I need to truly admire is myself. I love being a woman that is confident, blunt, extremely artistic, super quirky, and anxious to explore more of the world. Instead of trying to aspire to be someone else or have a certain “image,” I just try to be the best person I can be for myself. That’s probably why I love listening to soul music and of course house. It allows me to just feel free and not pressured to have this flawless image like all the pop stars and women like Beyonce, Kim K, and so many other celebrities that girls try to be like.

All I can do is be me and nobody else; you either truly like me or just don’t get me at all. But that’s why I just don’t worry about what people think of me, and I  get lost in feelgood house music and soul vibes that speak to my down-earth artistic self. Soul music has a way of kissing my soul and it makes me daydream of the day that a real man will be able to tenderly kiss my soul and add something to my life that is sensually poetic beyond words….

Here are some of my R&B/Soul picks for the day.

Janet Jackson – Got ’till It’s Gone

Hands down, my favorite song ever! I love this song so much and I love Janet Jackson. Such beautiful music! The video is so vibrant and filled with such a soulful vibe. Q-Tip was perfect on this track!

Charles Bradley – The World (Is Going Up In Flames)

This guy is awesome! Now that is some soul!!!!

Tanya Morgan – So Damn Down

Hip-Hop/Soul

The Floacist – Keep It Going (ft. Raheem DeVaughn)

I love this song! I’m a huge fan of Raheem DeVaugn and The Floacist is so hypnotic with every word she sings.

Maysa ft. Dwele – Flower Girl

This came out not too long ago. It’s the first single “Flower Girl” on her upcoming album ‘Motions of Love.’ The album comes out November 8th, 2011.

Syleena Johnson – A Boss

Little more on the R&B side, but still soulful. The video has Chad Ochocinco in it (boooo!) lol I just don’t find him attractive because he is so damn cocky and that turns me off major; he’s not my type. But the video is still hot and I love what Syleena is talking about.

Cross My Mind – Jill Scott
