I love finding new music to listen to and today I ran across a new artist worth checking out. You know how MSTRKRFT stands for Masterkraft, well SBTRKT is another catchy artist name that looks weird but reads as “SUBTRACT.”
SBTRKT is being noted as the future of dubstep & deep electronic music. His approach to traditional dubstep, is an approach that incorporates melodies and a lot of emotion. He performs behind tribal masks and likes to keep his identity somewhat incognito, but it works for him. The music speaks for itself and his identity is not necessarily that important. In my opinion, dubstep is meant to be mysterious. The more mysterious and abstract the beats, the better chance of a euphoric vibe.
Even though I’m more of a drum & bass addict, I do enjoy the sounds of a good dubstep track. I may not have a big collection of dubstep, but I love listening to it and getting off into a creative mindset. Dubstep is often the music of choice by most of the street racers I know, but I can so see why. When you’re driving at super fast speeds, there is something about the pulsating beats of dubstep that enhance your adrenaline rush. The abstract beats are perfect for finding creative inspiration and all of SBTRKT’s music is abstract, yet melodic and driven by emotion.
If you’ve never heard of SBTRKT before, then you really need to check out some of his performances from the iTunes London Music Festival. The performances featured the unique vocals of Sampha and the beats are abstract. It’s great music!!! I will have to start listening to more dubstep and also continue finding some more dnb.
