Cheetah Print, Rainbows, Polka Dots, and the Attack of Lip Tattoos

I’ve picked up this recent obsession with reading fashion blogs and spending hours finding the latest trends. When I’m not busy working on my graphic novel or school work, reading fashion blogs is a great way for me to pass the time. There are some fabulous trends out there in the world of fashion, but this latest attack of lip tattoos is not so fabulous in my opinion.

It’s one thing to see this fade on a model for the company, but to see actual everyday girls trying to rock this look; now that is an entirely different story. I think it’s artistic for a model to wear during a photo shoot or when strutting down the runway, but I’m starting to see everyday girls rock these lip tattoos with everyday clothing. These lip tattoos are made by a company called Violet Lips and they are totally FDA approved, so they must be a hit..right? Not!  Who wants to walk around with cheetah prints, rainbows, polka dots, and other weird designs on their lips. I’ve seen some girls rocking them on YouTube with some very classy and chic outfits, but the lips turn a fab outfit into a trashy tragedy.

I’m known for my candid opinion on certain topics and I can’t hold back the honesty on this one. This lip tattoo trend is starting to get on my nerves. Why would you want to cover up your beautiful and sexy lips with such tacky middle school tattoos?

My mom asked me if I would ever considering wearing these ghastly lip tattoos, I told her only if there were a few hours left on Halloween evening. I couldn’t imagine wearing them longer than an hour, let alone 5 minutes. I think these tattoos would look terrible on my full lips; it just means more surface area to cover with tackiness.

The most I’ll do with my lips is rock a bright red every now and then, but on the regular you’ll find me wearing that shade in the photo to the right or a lighter shade of pink. I don’t spend much time on makeup, because I barely wear it. Every now and then I’ll get dolled up like the photo with the red lips, but I tend to usually go with some lipstick, maybe eyeshadow, and then I’m out the door.

You’ll never catch me wearing any foundation at all. Never wore it before and don’t plan on it. I never liked the idea of putting on all that foundation and covering up my natural complexion: a few scars, bumps every now and then, and a caramel complexion. This may sound silly, but the thought of a guy kissing my face and getting foundation on his lips is gross. Some girls wear so much foundation it leaves marks on the pillow. Come on now, nobody should be wearing that much makeup on a beautiful relaxing day.

I understand the purpose of all these makeup tricks and trends; these lip tattoos and foundation are great for films, photo shoots, being on television, and other purposes for those in an artistic public eye. The everyday woman shouldn’t feel pressured to cake themselves with layer of foundation. If your skin is terrible, then get Proactive!

All I’m saying is there is nothing wrong with bright lipstick colors, eye shadows, and foundation; but caking on your foundation and wearing these tacky lip tattoos is going way too far. You may think it’s fun and cute to wear, but I’ve asked men what they thought of them and they are turned off ladies. You shouldn’t wear something to impress a guy anyways (unless you really like him) but these lip tattoos are surely keeping the hotties away. From what I know, a man loves a woman with lips that are soft and look beautiful to touch and kiss. You don’t have to have full lips to attract a man, just be sure to wear colors that compliment your skin and make your lips look luscious.

Cheetah print dresses are fun to wear and rainbows are beautiful to stare at, but they don’t belong anywhere near your lips.Where are the fashion police when you need them?! Just say no! If you want to wear polka dots or zebra prints, then head over to Ross and pick up an outfit for under $20 bucks. Save yourself the scrutiny and the weird look you get from men trying to decide whether to kiss your purple cheetah print lips or to run the other way.

This is your girl Jazz with a honest and raw opinion on temporary lip tattoos. You’ll never catch me wearing it and if you appreciate the beautiful lips God gave you, then let them shine with good old fashion lipstick.

Putting the Running Man on the Map: LMFAO “Party Rock Anthem”

I love LMFAO! I’ve been listening to their music ever since they came on the dance music scene. These guys are known for their crazy hair and their bright clothing and super skinny jeans. Their hit song “Party Rock Anthem” does a great job of putting the Melbourne shuffle on the map. Essentially, the Melbourne shuffle is just a faster and pumped up version of the running man. I first heard about the Melbourne shuffle when my brother got back from being on tour with Wayne Brady. He went to the Ministry of Sound Australia; him and a few other dancers on tour began cracking up while all the people in the club began doing this version of the running man on drugs.I love hearing him tell the story and watching him shuffle around the house; it’s a fun and easy dance that anyone can do, but it’s hilarious seeing my brother who has danced all around the world and is trained in so many styles sit back and do the running man. Such a sight!

If you’ve ever been to a rave or a nightclub that plays dance/electronica music, then you’ve probably seen the Melbourne shuffle. I saw their performance of “Party Rock Anthem” on the Jay Leno show ending (I was waiting for Jimmy Fallon to start, Jay Leno ran late) and I noticed Ryan and Hawk. Ryan Confidero and Hawk are from the Quest Crew, the guys who won America’s Best Dance Crew season 3. But not only are they from that show, they happen to be really good friends with my brother Jamile McGee. Ryan and Jamz where on season one of “So You Think You Can Dance?” together, so I recognized Ryan immediately.

The performance on Jay Leno was so funny to watch and Ryan was shuffling so hard. The best part of that performance was then the Shuffle Bot came out and started dancing. I just watched the video for “Party Rock Anthem” and of course Ryan, Hawk, and other members of the Quest Crew are in the video wearing crazy bright colored outfits and doing the running man Melbourne Shuffle.

If your a fan of LMFAO and the running man/Melbourne shuffle, then check out this hilarious and fun video for the “Party Rock Anthem.” Sometimes you got to party hard and keep shufflin. Everyday I’m shufflin! LOL LMFAO rocks!!!!!

P.S.

I really want a Shuffle Bot. I would party every single night if my crew had a Shuffle Bot. That’s so effin’ cool!
