Rachelle Ferrell: Dynamic Riffs of an Angel

Last week while out and about running errands with my mom, we decided to stop by Sally’s and pick up some hair supplies. I hadn’t had a relaxer in 8 weeks and my hair was crying out for attention! I tried being natural for awhile but it just isn’t my thing. I have to do what works for me and I’m not in the mood to transition back to natural or cut my hair off.

So as we embarked on our journey across the massively crowded parking lot, this Escalade swirved by us. All the windows were down and all you could hear was the high pitch riffs of a female vocalist. The girl in the driver seat had her speakers on full blast, so the sound was travelling throughout the area and people were glancing at her. I had to give the girl props for appreciating good music and instead of blasting Beyonce, she was in musical bliss and swaying with the vocal elegance of Rachelle Ferrell.

I’ve mentioned her name a lot amongst my social circles and most people don’t know who she is. Rachelle Ferrell is like Anita Baker meets Jill Scott, Ledisi, Lalah Hathaway….shoot all the great singers, it’s a powerful combination! Her vocal dynamics and jazz riffs would have given Charlie Parker a run for his money.

She is one of the most powerful and talented vocalist in the jazz and r&b game. I can’t even find the words to describe her beautiful vocal range, so check her out for yourself. If you don’t know who Rachelle Ferrell is then shame on you! Okay, it’s not that serious, but still…your missing out on sweet love to your ears.

Sidenote: It was very interesting googling pictures of her. Every picture seemed to catch her in the middle of one of her famous jazz riffs. That girl is always singing!

Rachelle Ferrell: I Can’t Explain (Live). Man every time I hear this song I end up crying, it’s so beautiful. Not only is she a talented jazz singer, but an amazing classically trained piano player as well.

Sista (Live)

Waiting (Live).  Yet another beautiful song. I’m going to have to see her live in concert very soon. I’d cry the entire time! Such a lovely voice, truly angelic!

No matter what she is singing about, she never ceases to amaze the crowd. Her and Lalah Hathaway singing together would be an amazing collaboration!

  1. You are not the only one whose eyes well up with tears! I was watching “I Can Explain” and as I saw how intuned she was with her music…her gift…her blessing of vocal art – given by God, I began to cry. God gave it to her and she is appreciating her gift like none other. She is expressing herself the way God intended…wholeheartedly from the core and very depths of her soul! Not only am I impressed, but I am truly inspired!
